ICAR and SOMO issue a statement supporting a corporate capture provision in draft Treaty during Fourth OEIGWG session

During the 4th session of the open-ended intergovernmental working group (OEIGWG) on transnational corporations and other business enterprises with respect to human rights, ICAR and SOMO issued a statement to support article 15.3 of the zero draft which addresses the issue of corporate capture.

The fourth session of the open-ended intergovernmental working group (OEIGWG) on transnational corporations and other business enterprises with respect to human rights marked the beginning of discussions on the Zero Draft for a legally binding instrument. Article 15.3 of the Zero Draft reads: “In policies and actions pursuant to this Convention, Parties shall act to protect these policies and actions from commercial and other vested interests of the [business sector] in accordance with national law

In the context of their joint project documenting and seeking to address corporate capture in trade and investment dispute settlement mechanisms, ICAR and SOMO issued a statement in support of article 15.3 in the Zero Draft.
